my opinion ; he runs away to be alone ! he feels guilt. pain from losing someone ! he is afraid and scared to admit to his creation ! he runs off knowing he lost 2 close family members because of him ! he wants to get away from everything ! he needs to think about what has happened and what he needs to do !
Victor goes away because he is confused and doesnt know what to do with his life anymore. is caught between depression and guilt. Or better yet... he Is GUILTY AND DEPRESSED. He just lost his little brother and now Justine is gone. He sees that His own creation is the cause,but Even thought he knows he's too much of a coward to stand up for it. He doesnt have any strength to put up with his own problem because he knows that he's the one at fault. All this just cause he doesnt want to be known as a MAD MAN but that is EXACTLY what he is.

Victor runs to the mountains because he is in a great state of depression He also is like just running away from everyone because he's guilty. He's the reason and the person responsible for williams death and justines conviction and also justines death. I guess he can't come clean about it so the easiest way to escape is to run away where no one can find him. He's a coward!
